ENDOWED BOOK SERIES SELECTS "ON AMERICAN SOIL"

Series honors V Ethel Willis White

"On American Soil" has been selected as the second book in a series of books honoring a revered member of the Northwest African American community.

The V Ethel Willis White Endowed Book Series includes scholarly works and original creative writing by African American writers, and scholarly works on African American history and culture. The fund contributes to the publication of books by the University of Washington Press.

The UW Press describes V. Ethel Willis White as "a woman of strong principles who came to Seattle, graced it with her presence and example, and modeled herself on how a member of her or any race could and should be treated."

The Wyman family of Seattle established the endowment in 2004. "On American Soil" is the second book to be honored in the series, the first was "Passing the Three Gates: Interviews with Charles Johnson," edited by Jim McWilliams.

For more about the endowment, please see Honoring Dignity: V Ethel Willis White Endowed Book Series.
